Krampusnacht is a tradition celebrated in Germany and other Alpine regions of Europe where a horned, demonic figure named Krampus accompanies Saint Nicholas on visits to children. While St. Nicholas rewards good children, Krampus punishes the naughty ones with birch branches and sometimes takes them away, with the tradition serving as a warning to behave for the coming St. Nicholas Day.
